Alexis Martin
Soprano
New England Finalist, 2007

Alexis Martin, soprano, has performed as a soloist in the United States, Italy and Israel. Recently seen as the Governess (Turn of the Screw) with the Seattle Opera Young Artists Program, additional roles include Susanna (Le Nozze di Figaro), Despina (Cosi fan tutte), Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), Fanny (La Cambiale di Matrimonio), Nannetta (Falstaff), Hannah (The Merry Widow), Lauretta (Gianni Schicchi), Zerbinetta (Ariadne auf Naxos) and Anne Trulove (The Rake’s Progress).

Ms. Martin previously won Second Place in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions (Mid-South Region) and is a recipient of The Schuyler Career Bridges Grant. In 2005 she was awarded First Prize in the Sun Valley Opera Competition and has as well been awarded First Prize in the Classical Productions, Friday Woodmere, and Tuesday Morning Music Competitions. She received the Gold Medal from the Five Towns Music Foundation, and won Second Prize in the Jenny Lind Competition for Sopranos. In 2003 Ms. Martin was a featured artist on WQXR Radio’s McGraw-Hill Companies’ Young Artist Showcase with Robert Sherman.

 

Ms. Martin was a member of the Seattle Opera Young Artist Program and has participated in the International Vocal Arts Institute and the Renata Scotto Opera Academy. She is currently a doctoral degree candidate in vocal performance at the City University of New York Graduate Center and is also training to become a certified teacher of the Alexander Technique. She received a master’s degree in music from the Brooklyn College Conservatory, an undergraduate degree in Biological Anthropology from Harvard University and previously trained in the classical voice department of The Juilliard School Pre-college Division.
