Verunka Vlkova

Soprano, Verunka Vlkova, is a native of Tempe, Arizona. Verunka is the first American born child in her Czech family. She received her undergraduate degree from Arizona State University, studying with Darelen Kliewer-Britton. Currently a graduate student of New England Conservatory, Verunka studies with Delores Ziegler. Before attending New England Conservatory, she lived in New York City with her brother Petr and sister-in-law Melina for 2 years while studying with Bruce Norris, the organist for the Metropolitan Opera House. Verunka Vlkova spent the past summer in Urbania, Italy, participating in the Scuola Italia Opera Program, in which she studied with Sylvia Stone. While working on her Italian, she performed many scene recitals from Pagliacci, Mose, and Cosi Fan Tutte. Her first stage experience was at Brevard Music Festival in 2004, where she worked with David Effron, John Greer, and Carmen Pelton, a great teacher who single-handedly changed her life. She made her operatic debut as Lauretta from Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi with the New England Conservatory in 2006, working alongside John Greer and Marc Astafan. Verunka Vlkova is currently working on La Bohème for Boston Opera Collaborative/ Riverside Theatre Works and will debut her first Mimi at the end of March 2006.
