Vira Slywotzky
Soprano
New England Finalist, 2008

Originally from Cambridge, MA, Vira now lives in New York City and Chatham, CapeCod. A graduate of Yale University, Vira received her masters in voice at Mannes College, The New School for Music, where she sang Giorgetta in Il Tabarro and Countess Almaviva in Le Nozze di Figaro, as well as scenes from The Consul, Don Giovanni Un Ballo inMaschera and Cosi fan Tutte. In New York City, Vira has also performed with the Yara Arts Group, Friends and Enemies of New Music, and the Mirror Visions Ensemble, with whom she premiered Christopher Berg’s The Months at Merkin Hall in October 2006. Vira sang the role of Mrs. Sally Adams in Songs from Call MeMadam at the Luxembourg House in May 2007 and as part of the 2007 Verdi Square Music Festival. She is a founding member of “World Premiere,” a company that develops corporate leadership skills through opera workshops. Vira spent the summer of 2007 as a studio artist with Chautauqua Opera and will be returning for the 2008 season as an apprentice artist. She is the recipient of a Richard F. Gold Career Grant (2007) and a Chautauqua Opera Guild Studio Artist Award (2007). This spring, Vira will be performing the role of Nedda in I Pagliacci with the Opera Company of the Highlands. She will be embarking on two concert tours in 2008: one of new music and one of Ukrainian art songs. Vira studies with Beth Roberts.
