Jessica Stavros
Soprano
New England Finalist, 2008
Originally from Southern California, Jessica Stavros, is currently a first year member of the Opera Institute at Boston University. She recently performed the role Mrs. P in Michael Nyman¡’s The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat with Boston University’s Opera Theater. Summer 2007 Ms. Stavros covered Mimì at the Music Academy of the West, where she also worked closely with Marilyn Horne and Warren Jones.She has been invited to return and perform the role of Victoria Corelli in A Wedding by William Bolcom in the 2008 summer. Jessica covered the title role in the 2006 US stage premiere of Schumann’s Genoveva at Bard Summerscape Festival under the baton of Leon Botstein. Other roles include Giorgetta in Il Tabarro, Candace Whitcomb in Stephen Paulus’ The Village Singer, The Witch in Hansel and Gretel, Donna Anna and Suor Angelica with the Repertory Opera Company in Los Angeles.
Ms. Stavros’ many awards include an Encouragement Award from the 2007 Middle Atlantic Regional Finals of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, 2007, Richard F Gold Career Grant recipient, 1st place in the 2005 New Century Singers Competition, 1st place in the 2004 Intimate Opera Vocal Competition and was a finalist in the 2006 Palm Beach Opera Vocal Competition. Jessica holds a master’s degree from Manhattan School of Music (2007) and a bachelor’s degree from BIOLA University (2005) in Los Angeles. Upcoming engagements include First Lady in the Magic Flute with Boston University.
