Eric Barry Eric Barry has set himself apart from other tenors through his signature sound, musical sincerity, and ease of dramatic expression. On stage he is an excellent actor with surprising range, while off stage he is a remarkably generous and giving colleague. His performances have earned him international approval - the PBS documentary 'Young Opera' declared him to be "the next big thing in the tenor world." This Spanish-American tenor has been heard throughout the US and Europe-including broadcasts on National Public Radio. He will complete a Master’s degree and Artist Diploma from Yale University by May 2011.
Mr. Barry operatic highlights include singing Rodolfo in Puccini’s famed operatic work La Bohème performed at the Teatro Comunale di Sulmona in Italy. In New York he sang the role of Caliban in the East Coast premiere of Lee Hoiby’s masterpiece The Tempest. Next month he is engaged with the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi in Milan and will sing Ottavio in Yale Opera's production of Don Giovanni. In March he will perform in the Sanibel Music Festival and in April he will perform and record Donizetti’s Maria Padilla at the Beethoven Easter Festival in Warsaw, Poland. This summer he will sing two leading roles with the Wolf Trap Opera company and later this year he will revisit the role of Rodolfo in La Bohème with Amarillo Opera where he recently debuted as the Duke of Mantua in Verdi’s Rigoletto. In addition to operatic repertoire, Mr. Barry is well versed in early music and oratorio. His most celebrated performances have been Händel’s Messiah, Verdi’s Messa di Requiem, Mozart’s Requiem, Brahm’s Liebeslieder, and selections from J.S. Bach’s St. John and St. Matthew’s Passions.
