Samantha Korbey
Mezzo soprano
New England Finalist 2011

Mezzo Soprano Samantha Korbey is a second-year Master’s degree candidate at the Manhattan School of Music where she is a student of Marlena Malas. Performances include the role of Cherubino in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro, Mrs. Bassett in Hoiby’s Summer and Smoke, and Alkandre in Fauré’s Pénélope (all with the Manhattan School of Music Opera Theater), as well as Cherubino in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro at the Chautauqua Institute. Professional credits include opera choruses in the Connecticut Opera productions of Carmen, Don Pasquale, Tosca, Die Entführung aus dem Serail, and Don Giovanni, and in the Berkshire Opera production of La Bohème. She was also the recipient of the 2010 Mae Zenke Orvis Endowed Opera Scholarship. This summer, Samantha will be an apprentice in the Santa Fe Opera program. Formerly a Ph.D. candidate in Behavioral Neuroscience at the University of Connecticut, in 2007 she terminated her degree at the Master’s level to devote herself fully to the pursuit of a career in opera.
