The National Semifinals takes place at the Metropolitan
Opera House during the spring season. At that time, regional winners
are brought to New York for musical preparation under the guidance of
the Metropolitan's artistic staff. From the National Semifinalists,
all of whom compete on the Met stage with piano accompaniment, ten are
selected by the jury as National Finalists and compete in the Grand
Finals Concert which takes place the following Sunday on the Met stage,
accompanied by the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. The jury then awards
$15,000 each to a maximum of five National Grand Winners. Each National
Finalist not selected as a National Grand Winner receives $5,000, and
those National Semifinalists who do not advance to the National Finals
are awarded $1,500 to assist with their further studies.
This year's Grand Finals Concert will take place March
20, 2005. Tickets are available through the Met at (212) 362-6000.
Winners' names will be posted on this site.
