John Churchwell

Judge
Mr. Churchwell currently resides in New York City where he is an Assistant
Conductor on the Metropolitan Opera's music staff. 1999-2000 productions
include the world premiere of John Harbison's The Great Gatsby
and Offenbach's Les Contes d'Hoffmann. Mr. Churchwell is also a
member of the San Francisco Opera's music staff. 1999 mainstage productions
include La Favorite and Wozzeck. Upcoming engagements include
the world premiere of Dead Man Walking by Jake Heggie, Parsifal,
and Semele for San Francisco Opera.
On the recital stage, Mr. Churchwell maintains active partnerships with
some of today's most sought-after singers and instrumentalists. Recent
appearances include recitals with Dawn Upshaw at New York City's Morgan
Library and Sarah Lawrence College; a recital with tenor Anthony Dean
Griffey in Greensboro, NC; "A Tribute to Phyllis Curtin" at Carnegie Hall's
Weill Recital Hall; chamber music with members of the Metropolitan Opera
Orchestra in Windham, NY.
Mr. Churchwell's education includes a Bachelor of Music in Piano from
New England Conservatory of Music, a Bachelor of Arts in French from Tufts
University, a Master of Music in Accompanying from the University of Minnesota,
and work towards a Doctorate of Musical Arts at the same institution.
Mr. Churchwell is a native of Knoxville, Tennessee.
