Giovanni Reggioli

2000 Finals Judge

 

Born in Florence in 1965, Maestro Reggioli has worked as a voice coach at the Spoleto Festival in Italy and at the Julliard Opera Center, in addition to such opera houses as the Teatro alla Scala in Milano, the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in Florence, the Donizetti Festival in Bergamo, the Opera Barga Festival, and the Settimana Musicale Senese at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena, where he also was a teaching assistant to such prestigious musicians as Carlo Bergonzi and Bruno Bartoletti.

 

He has accompanied in recital many internationally known artists including Renata Scott, Rolando Panerai, Cecilia Bartoli, Gino Bechi, Lando Bartolini and Giusepppe Taddei. Giovanni Reggioli is currently pursuing a conducting career and has already served as assistant conductor at the New York City Opera, Julliard Opera Center, and the Teatro Comunale in Florence. As a result of these engagements, he has worked with such conductors as Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Chailly, Gerard Schwartz, Julius Rudel, Bruno Bartoletti, Edoardo Muller and Peter Maag. He was the recipient of the conducting scholarship at the Laboratorio Lirico di Alessandria in Italy and the Bruno Walter Memorial Scholarship at the Juilliard School in New York in 1991, 1992, and 1993.

His previous engagements include the conducting of a new production of Rossini's Il Barbière di Siviglia with Rolando Panerai in Florence, in the summer of 1995, as well as concerts with the Florence Chamber Orchestra.

Mo. Reggioli joined the Metropolitan Opera during the 1995/96 season as assistant conductor and was responsible for music preparation for Falstaff. In addition, he is a coach for members of the Young Artist Development Program.
