Kristina Martin
Mezzo-soprano
New England Finalist, 2001

Mezzo-soprano Kristina Martin, a recent graduate of The Boston Conservatory, has performed such roles as Augusta Tabor in The Ballad of Baby Doe, Mrs. Herring in Albert Herring, the title role in Xerxes, and Prince Orlofsky in the Conservatory's Gala production of Die Fledermaus, for which the Boston Globe stated: "Kristina Martin as Orlofsky came on like gangbusters—she has a voice like Marilyn Horne's, and a delivery like Rosie O'Donnell's; she's so good she's scary."

Last year Ms. Martin made her Boston Lyric Opera debut as Third Lady in Die Zauberflöte and has returned this season as the Page of Herodias in Salome. This summer she will be traveling to the Opera Theater of Saint Louis to perform the role of Sarah Pocket in Miss Havisham's Fire. As an Apprentice Artist with Central City Opera, Ms. Martin performed the roles of Prince Orlofsky in the company's youth performance, Wowkle in The Girl of the Golden West, and Mrs. Hildebrand in Street Scene. Last summer she performed the role of Pitti-Sing in The Mikado under the direction of David Gately for Utah Festival Opera. She is also busy on the concert stage performing such works as Copland's Eight Poems of Emily Dickinson, Ralph Vaughan Williams' Five Tudor Portraits, Hovahness' Magnificat opus 157, Handel's Messiah, Mendelssohn's Elijah, and Mozart's Requiem.

Ms. Martin was a finalist in the 1999 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions for the New England Region, a semi-finalist in the 1999 D'Angelo Young Artists Competition, and a finalist in the 2000 Liederkranz Foundation Awards for Singers. She currently studies voice with Elisabeth Phinney, vocal coaching with Michael Strauss, and dramatic coaching with mezzo-soprano Sondra Kelly.
