Patrick
Miller
Tenor
New England Finalist, 2002
Tenor Patrick Miller is quickly establishing himself as an increasingly
sought-after young talent. After making his debut as Camille in Fargo-Moorhead
Opera's 2000 production of The Merry Widow, Patrick went on to
sing the roles of Remendado in Carmen, Don Ramiro in La Cenerentola
on tour, and Luther in Carlisle Floyd's Cold Sassy Tree, all with
Austin Lyric Opera. In addition, he covered the role of Will Tweedy in
Cold Sassy Tree with Austin Lyric Opera during its debut run. A
graduate of the Austin Lyric Opera Resident Artist Program, Patrick also
completed apprenticeships with Glimmerglass Opera and Des Moines Metro
Opera. His Tamino in Theatre de la Jeune Lune's Minneapolis production
of The Magic Flute gained national attention, and was filmed for
the Lincoln Center Arts Library's permanent collection. Recent performances
include La Traviata with Lyric Opera of San Antonio, The Magic
Flute with Orlando Opera, La Cenerentola with Fargo-Moorhead
Opera, Dialogues of the Carmelites with Glimmerglass Opera and
Così fan tutte and Die Fledermaus with the Opera
Institute in Boston. After singing Lysander with the Opera Institute this
February, Patrick will join Lyric Opera of Chicago's prestigious Lyric
Opera Center for American Artists.
Equally at home on the concert stage, Patrick's oratorio and concert performances
include works of Beethoven, Britten, Handel, Haydn, Mozart, and Schubert.
He has sung at such international festivals as the Covent Garden Festival,
the Prague Spring Festival, the Oregon Bach Festival, and the Flanders
Festival. Patrick's most recent project was a collaboration with Austin
Lyric Opera and the Ariel Dance Troupe on a world-premiere of Graham Brown's
Seven Rooms to the Soul, a work for chamber ensemble, dancers, and four
solo voices.
Patrick has been the recipient of numerous regional honors, including
reaching the Regional finals of the Metropolitan Opera National Council
Auditions and the finals of the Connecticut Opera Competition. Mr. Miller
spent two summers studying Italian and Bel Canto singing with Raina Kabaivanska
at the prestigious L'Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena, Italy. Currently
a member of The Opera Institute in Boston, Patrick holds a Master of Music
degree in vocal performance from the University of Minnesota.
