Hannah Sharene Penn

Mezzo-soprano Hannah Sharene Penn enjoys a diverse career as a performer of recital literature, oratorio, and opera. She has performed numerous operatic roles with New England Conservatory, Indiana University, Glimmerglass Opera Company, and Brevard Summer Festival. As an oratorio soloist, Ms. Penn’s performances include the Mozart’s Requiem, the Verdi Requiem, the Bach St. Matthew Passion, the several performances of the Messiah. An advocate of new music, Ms. Penn has performed in many modern works, including Mark Adamo’s opera Little Women, Sven-David Sandstrom's High Mass, and the American premiere tour of John Adams’ El Nino. As a recitalist, Ms. Penn studied German Lied for three years with the renowned pianist and coach Leonard Hokanson. She has also performed in a staged recital of Hugo Wolf's Italienisches Liederbuch under the direction of the great lieder singer Hakan Hagegård. Last summer Ms. Penn participated in the Vocal Chamber Music Program at Ravinia’s Steans Institute. Ms. Penn was also selected to participate in a Carnegie Hall masterclass with James Levine as part of the Marilyn Horne Foundation’s The Song Continues…festival. Upcoming engagements include Mozart’s C Minor Mass with the Master Chorale of South Florida (Miami), Rosina (cover) in Il Barbiere di Siviglia and The Shepherdess in Janacek’s Jenufa, both with Glimmerglass Opera. Ms. Penn is student of Ms. Patricia Misslin at New England Conservatory, where she is currently pursuing a Doctorate of Musical Arts.
