Jessica Tarnish

New England Finalist, 2006                      

Jessica Tarnish, Soprano, is from Davenport, Iowa. She is currently in her second year of studies at the Opera Institute at Boston University where she has appeared as Sandrina in La Finta Giardiniera, The Female Chorus in The Rape of Lucretia, The Duchess in the Boston premiere of Philip Glass’s Galileo Gallelei, and False Angéle in The Tsar had his photograph taken. Last April Ms. Tarnish performed Verdi’s Requiem with famed Bass Simon Estes and the Naples Philharmonic and in 2004 she performed Carmina Burana with the Choral Society of Columbia, Missouri. She is a recent Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions New England Region Semi-Finalist, and in 2000 she was a Chicago Regional Finalist. As the winner of a scholarship from the National Opera Association, Ms. Tarnish studied at the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria. This summer she is engaged as a Young Artist with Central City Opera where she will perform the roles of Donna Anna in Don Giovanni and Fortuna in L’Incoronazione Di Poppea. She received her Bachelors degree in vocal performance from Augustana College in 2000 and then continued her graduate work at the University of Missouri. This spring she will be appearing in the Opera Institutes productions of Don Giovanni and A Month in the Country.
