Sandra Piques Eddy, praised as a “charismatic mezzo with future star written all over her” ( Boston Globe) and “an important voice in the making” (The New Yorker) is also recognized for her “rich, velvety voice, stunning good looks and above all her depth of feeling for every word and note.” (The Boston Herald) The Los Angeles Times agrees, proclaiming her deftly sung Cherubino to be “fine with the high jinks” and “able to stop a listener cold with her coffee and cream voice”.

Recent and upcoming engagements include; Dorabella in Cosi fan tutte with both Pittsburgh Opera and New York City Opera; A return to the Metropolitan as Lola in Cavalleria Rusticana and Chicago Opera Theater as Beatrice in Beatrice et Benedict and debuts at Austin Lyric Opera as Rosina in Il Barbiere di Siviglia..

Ms. Eddy's notable engagements include; Isabella in L'Italiana in Algeri with the Arizona Opera; Dorabella at Glimmerglass Opera; Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro with Metropolitan Opera, Los Angeles Opera and Chicago Opera Theater; Don Ramiro in La finta giardiniera at New York City Opera and Florida Grand Opera; Meg in Little Women at Glimmerglass Opera, Fort Worth and Kentucky Opera; Page in Salome at Glimmerglass Opera and Florida Grand Opera.

Also at New York City Opera, the lyric mezzo debuted as Flora in La Traviata and performed Pitti Sing in Mikado. Sandra participated in South Carolina’s Spoleto Festival as Mallika in Lakme. On the concert stage, Ms. Eddy was mezzo soloist with the Monadnock and Manchester Music Festivals and at Avery Fisher Hall she was heard as alto soloist in Handel’s Messiah with the National Chorale.  One year after winning first place in the New England Region of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, Sandra joined the Metropolitan Opera roster. Her Met repertoire includes; Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro, Mercedes in Carmen, Rosette in Manon, Lola in Cavalleria Rusticana, the Dragonfly in L’enfant et les Sortileges, Zulma in L’Italiana in Algeri, Naked Virgin in Moses und Aron, Olga in Merry Widow, Countess Ceprano in Rigoletto, Flower maiden in Parsifal, Handmaiden in Sly and Servant in Die Frau ohne Schatten.

The Boston native performed with the Boston Baroque ensemble making her professional concert debut in Vivaldi’s Gloria in the 2000 New Year’s Eve and First Day Concerts at Sanders Theater and Portsmouth Music Hall .  Also with Boston Baroque, Sandy’s roles include; Messagiera and Speranza in L’Orfeo and Valletto and Amore in L’Incoronazione di Poppea.  Boston audiences heard her as Kate Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly with Boston Lyric Opera, and in various roles with the Boston University’s Opera Institute including: Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro, Sesto in La clemenza di Tito, Nancy in Albert Herring, Dinah in Trouble in Tahiti, Ursula in Beatrice and Benedict, Foreign Singer in Postcard from Morocco, and Teiresias in the staged premiere of Merryman’s Antigone.  Most memorable was her portrayal of Sesto in La clemenza di Tito where The Boston Herald cited her as “Best Young Musician” in the Boston year in music review2000 for outstanding performance. 

Sandra was awarded a Richard T . Gold Shoshana Foundation Career Grant through the Glimmerglass Opera Young American Artist Program.  Ms. Eddy has won competitions at both Opera Lirica and at the Boston Conservatory, where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Music Education.  She graduated from Boston University’s School for the Arts with a Master’s in Vocal Performance, and was an apprentice artist at the Boston Opera Institute. Sandra Piques Eddy is the 2000 New England Regional First Place Winner and National Semi-finalist of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions.
