Kristina Martin
Mezzo-soprano
New England Encouragement Award, 2001

The Boston Globe has stated that mezzo-soprano Kristina Martin is "so good she's scary." She has performed with opera companies across the United States including Boston Lyric Opera, Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, Central City Opera and Utah Festival Opera. This season, she will be covering Giovanna in Rigoletto for the New York City Opera. Her performance repertoire includes Third Lady in Die Zauberflöte, Sarah Pocket in Miss Havisham's Fire, Prince Orlofsky in Die Fledermaus, Augusta Tabor in The Ballad of Baby Doe, The Page of Herodias in Salome and Pitti-Sing in The Mikado. Ms. Martin has worked with directors and conductors such as Stephen Lord, John Moriarty, Beatrice Affron, Leon Major, James Robinson, Mikael Melbye and David Gately. She is also busy on the concert stage having performed Copland's Eight Poems of Emily Dickinson, Vaughan William's Five Tudor Portraits, Handel's Messiah, Mendelssohn's Elijah and Mozart's Requiem.

Ms. Martin's awards have included an Honorable Mention Award for the 2001 Heida Hermann Young Artist Competition and the 2001 New England Region Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions Encouragement Award. She was a finalist in the 2002 National Opera Association Competition and for the 2000 Liederkranz Foundation as well as a semi-finalist in the 1999 D'Angelo Young Artist Competition. Ms. Martin continues her studies with Elisabeth Phinney, Sondra Kelly, and Doug Martin.
